Liberalism

There are several strands of liberalism, linked, among others, to economic thinking, political thinking, and law. All of them are based on the defense of certain freedoms. In the economic field, for example, since the 17th century in England, the idea of free trade has gained strength, giving rise to economic liberalism. At the political level, liberal assumptions were formed in the context of the Enlightenment. The individual was then emphasized as the principal entity of society, endowed with certain inalienable natural rights. The government should be representative, governed by a constitution and with powers divided into different spheres (executive, legislative, judiciary), in order to avoid the arbitrary power of the rulers.
